On July 4, 2009, Zapata County Fire Dept. recieved 8 fire calls due to fire
works. Two of the fires were nearly structure fires. Zapata County Fire Dept would wish to thank everybody that helped out
in these fires. July 4, celebration fire works have been around for many years and every year its a growing problem with the
mishandling and the lack of knowledge that is missing from the public popping fire works. Many people every year lose homes,
businesses, and etc due to fire works. Other than the loss of homes and materialistic items, we also have the problem of injuries.
This year we had no reported injuries, but it has happened and will happen in the future. Please visit this website, giving
